WASHINGTON—Ron Newlan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the HUBZone Contractors National Council, today wrote David Safavian, the Bush Administration’s Administrator for Federal Procurement Policy, thanking him for a recent meeting and applauding the Administration’s support for the HUBZone program.

“We know that the Bush Administration has quite a lot on its plate these days, and we really appreciate Administrator Safavian’s time,” Newlan said.

Newlan said Safavian acknowledged the continuing challenge to increase contract awards in the HUBZone program, to meet the program’s statutory goal. The HUBZone program calls for 3% of the government’s prime contracting dollars to be awarded to small firms that locate in and hire from the nation’s most distressed neighborhoods and communities (HUBZones).

“We look forward to working with you to help identify specific steps that can translate the Administration’s commitment into real progress for the HUBZone program,” Newlan said in his letter.
